GCG Network Upgrades - December 2020

As the year comes to a close, we want all of our players and members to have the best possible experience when it comes to gaming on our servers.

One of the obstacles we have had to overcome is slow download speeds when downloading a mod file or a map. We feel this was a major area we needed to improve on. 

While we mostly cater to Asia, we have found that routing between different networks and different countries isn't the same.

For example, if we host the server in Singapore, while routing may be low ping in game, download speeds to that location from another country may be slow. 

We experienced this in our testing stage when some people would load into the server with an average time of 25 seconds, while others were up to 5 mins. 

This was frankly unacceptable to us.

This also was an issue with loading skins and stats in game. 

So today we are proud to announce the GCG CDN download server.

A CDN is a content delivery network. That means instead of storing files in one location, they are actually hosted on many servers. 

This is how our network looked like before:

You > Singapore server

And this is what it looks like now:

You > Determines closest location > Starts download from there

That means instead of connecting straight to Singapore, you will connect to one of these locations where the files are stored.
